Breast surgery scar camouflage

SOFTENED CONTRAST · MATCHED SKIN TONE · WHERE SUITABLE

Where suitable, carefully matched pigment can help a breast surgery scar sit more quietly against the surrounding skin. Scar camouflage is cosmetic and restorative tattooing, carried out in person at our studio in Forest Hill, Melbourne, and it always begins with a personalised consultation.

Camouflage softens contrast. It doesn't remove a scar.

PIGMENT · TONE · LIGHT

A scar often catches the eye because its colour differs from the skin around it. It may look paler, pinker or more silvery. Camouflage works on that difference. We choose and layer pigment to bring the scar’s tone closer to the skin around it, so the line becomes less noticeable.

What camouflage cannot do is change the scar itself. Raised, indented or tight tissue keeps its texture, and light will still fall on it. Our aim is reduced visual contrast, not removal. The result depends on your skin, your scar and how you heal.

Skin is rarely one flat shade, so a scar rarely calls for one pigment.

WHAT SHAPES SUITABILITY

Three things we look at before recommending camouflage

01

Scar maturity

A scar that is still healing or changing in colour is not ready for pigment. Your surgeon or GP is best placed to advise whether your scar has settled.

02

Texture

Flat scars usually take pigment more evenly than raised, thickened or uneven ones. Texture also affects how much a scar still shows once the colour difference has been softened.

03

Skin condition

Previously operated or treated skin can hold pigment differently. We consider your surgical history, skin condition and natural pigmentation before suggesting any treatment.

PERSONALISED CONSULTATION

How we decide whether camouflage is right for you

At your consultation we take time to understand what you would like to change and look closely at the scar and the skin around it. We talk through your surgical history and explain honestly what pigment can and cannot do in your case.

Sometimes the answer is that camouflage is not the right step, or not yet. In that case we will tell you. Medical clearance from your treating doctor may be needed before treatment, particularly after recent surgery or ongoing care. Tattooing does not replace medical advice or surgical treatment.

REFERENCE · A CALM, CLEAN TREATMENT SETTING

Before you decide

COSMETIC · RESTORATIVE · INDIVIDUAL

Scar camouflage is offered only where it is suitable. Results vary with skin condition, surgical history, scarring, pigmentation and individual healing, and they are not guaranteed. We don’t provide surgical scar revision or medical diagnosis. For questions about a scar’s health, please speak with a qualified healthcare professional. Our Suitability, Limitations and Risks page explains this in more detail.
