SERVICE 03

Areola tattooing after breast reconstruction: colour for the final stage.

RECONSTRUCTED SKIN · LAYERED PIGMENT · VISUAL SYMMETRY

A professional treatment room with a covered bed, folded towels, storage, a sink and warm wooden blinds.

REFERENCE · A CALM, CLEAN TREATMENT SETTING

For many clients, nipple and areola tattooing is the last step after surgical breast reconstruction. It adds colour, definition and the impression of a nipple to skin that has been rebuilt. We do not perform reconstruction surgery. Our work is cosmetic and restorative pigment application, carried out in person at our studio in Forest Hill, Melbourne.

A practical checklist before you enquire

TIMING · CLEARANCE · QUESTIONS

  • Ask your surgeon when your reconstructed skin is ready for tattooing. Their guidance on timing comes first.
  • Check whether you need medical clearance before treatment, and arrange it if so.
  • Think about how you would like the area to look. Some clients want a close match to the other side, and some want both sides recreated.
  • Note any scarring, changes in sensation or areas that are still settling, so we can discuss them during your consultation.
  • Write down your questions, including whether a tattoo can look realistic without a surgically reconstructed nipple.

Planning colour on reconstructed skin

TONE · TEXTURE · PLACEMENT

Reconstructed skin often looks different from untreated skin. It can be smoother or firmer in places, and it may carry scars that take up pigment in their own way. That is why we never plan with a single shade. Natural areolas hold subtle variations in tone, so we build colour in layers and use realistic shading to suggest depth.

During a personalised consultation, we look at your anatomy, skin condition, surgical history and preferences before we recommend anything. If one breast was not operated on, we use it as a guide for colour, size and position. If both were reconstructed, we plan a pair that looks balanced with your body.

Reconstructed skin takes pigment in its own way, so the plan starts there.

01

Pigment selection

SEVERAL TONES, MIXED TO SUIT

We choose a set of tones for your skin rather than one colour from a bottle. This is the core of our colour matching work.

02

Realistic shading

LIGHT AND SHADOW, NOT PROJECTION

Highlights and shadow can suggest a nipple on flat skin. It is a visual effect only and does not create physical projection. Read more about 3D nipple tattooing.

03

Visual symmetry

SIZE, SHAPE AND POSITION

We plan size and placement with you before any pigment is applied, so that both sides read as a balanced pair when you look in the mirror.

What tattooing can offer

What it cannot replace

SURGERY · MEDICAL ADVICE
